The naval orange tree was in full blossom when we first looked at the Tulluc site late 2005. The sweet smell of nectar added to the enchantment of the riverside block, nestled in the shade of the red gums at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac. The location was perfect in so many ways, close to Griffith, but in a small village on the banks of the Murrumbidgee river. The village lifestyle offers the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, with a little supermarket and an excellent family run butchery just around the corner making it possible to abandon the car and enjoy fresh country air. All that was missing was a comfortable home for our young family, and so began our "owner builder adventure".
Tulluc cottage is a horizontal corrugated steel construction which has been enhanced with all the luxuries we could wish for. There are large double glazed cedar doors and windows and a polished concrete floor to add to the excellent thermal properties of the building, creating a comfortable environment inside, regardless of the extremes of weather outside. It is hardly necessary to use the air conditioning or the wood stove!
An open plan living space gives a light and airy feel to the home, with views to a leafy garden and the red gums beyond. It is fitted out for comfort with a large leather couch to relax on while watching TV or enjoying music through the surround sound system.
The kitchen was designed to cater for my enjoyment of cooking. It has a large electric oven and six burner gas cook top. There is a full sized fridge and of course a dishwasher to take care of the washing up.
In the bathroom, instantaneous gas hot water can be set to the desired temperature, ensuring a comfortable soak in the deep bath. The heated towel rail keeps the plush towels warm and cosy.
Outside is a BBQ area which overlooks the swimming pool. The pool was designed with our young children in mind. It has a large "beach" area where toddlers can wade in the shade of the umbrella. Confident swimmers have plenty of space to swim and play and there is a waterfall that provides the soothing sound of running water.
Tulluc was named after our two children Tully and Luca, and we created many happy memories living there. When a new opportunity required us to move, we decided to share our beautiful home with like minded people wanting a relaxing break and so Tulluc Cottage became a holiday rental property.
